Eric Liao, CO
Eric Liao, CO is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthoptist.
Eric grew up in the Portland, OR and is a proud University of Washington graduate (Go Dawgs!). He graduated from the UW with a B.S. in Molecular & Cellular Biology and a minor in Global Health. He then headed down South to attend Vanderbilt University, where he completed his orthoptic fellowship at the esteemed Vanderbilt Eye Institute. Despite receiving plenty of Southern Hospitality, he is glad to be back in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!
In his free time, Eric enjoys playing tennis, golf, and hiking/eating his way around the PNW. He is bilingual, speaking English and Mandarin Chinese fluently.
What is an orthoptist?
An orthoptist is an advanced health care provider within the ophthalmic field who are specially trained in the areas of pediatric ophthalmology, neuro ophthalmology, and adult strabismus. Orthoptists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of eye movement problems and binocular vision. They are uniquely trained to treat disorders such as amblyopia, genetic disorders, and complex pediatric and adult strabismus.
Orthoptists partner with ophthalmologists to provide the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of irregularities of the eyes — especially those of the eye muscles — that prevent normal binocular vision. Due to their extensive training, patients may have appointments solely with an orthoptist without needing to see the ophthalmologist as part of the management of their condition.
