Light Adjustable Lens

Are you interested in clear, personalized vision after cataract surgery? Do you want the option to test drive your vision before it’s finalized? You may be a good candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens, a premium IOL offered at Eye Associates Northwest, providing patients with customizable vision correction to ensure the best possible visual outcome.

What is the Light Adjustable Lens?

The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is a revolutionary IOL that helps patients achieve their dream vision after cataract surgery. Its unique design allows your cataract surgeon to customize the lens to reach your desired visual outcome after cataract surgery.

Using a series of UV light treatments with the Light Delivery Device, your cataract surgeon at Eye Associates Northwest can reshape your Light Adjustable Lens and change its focusing power. Between treatments, you’ll have the opportunity to test your vision and make any adjustments needed at the following sessions until you achieve your best vision and lock it in.

Once your vision is finalized, you can enjoy crisp, clear images and reduced dependence on visual aids like glasses and contacts.

What is the Light Adjustable Lens Plus?

The Light Adjustable Lens Plus (LAL+) is made with a modified aspheric anterior surface, enhancing your visual results by creating a more extended depth of focus. Like the Light Adjustable Lens, it is customizable to your vision through a series of UV light treatments after cataract surgery.

Am I a Good Candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens?

If you have an active lifestyle and want to enjoy greater visual freedom without glasses and contacts holding you back, you may be a good candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens. Because it offers the option of vision adjustments after cataract surgery, it is also an excellent choice for patients who want more control over the visual outcome of their procedure.

You may also be a good candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens if you:

To determine whether you are a good candidate for the Light Adjustable Lens, you should schedule a consultation with your eye doctor at Eye Associates Northwest. They will answer your questions about the procedure and light treatments and discuss your lifestyle and vision goals to help you arrive at an informed decision about your IOL.

What to Expect During Recovery with the Light Adjustable Lens

After your cataract surgery with the Light Adjustable Lens, you will be required to wear special UV protective glasses at all times. You can remove them to shower, wash your face, apply eye drops, and sleep, but you must keep them on at all other times, whether inside or outside.

You will need to attend one to three light treatments with your cataract surgeon to adjust your lenses, as well as two “lock-in” treatments. During your treatments, they will use the Light Delivery Device to adjust the shape of your lens.

The treatments are quick and painless, taking just 90 seconds on average. They will begin about three to four weeks after your cataract surgery to give your eye enough time to heal.

Each treatment will be spaced about a week apart, giving you enough time to test your visual results and make any necessary changes at your next appointment. After you’ve completed your final “lock-in” treatment, you can enjoy your new personalized vision.

By reducing or eliminating your dependence on visual aids, you can finally be free of the frustrations that come with glasses and contacts. You can experience all of life’s great moments uninterrupted and in high-definition, whether watching your favorite movie, playing a game of golf, or setting off on a cruise.
